Dear Friends,
Thank you for your warm support for the creation of the Institute
of Draped Clothes. I am a bit overwhelmed by your response and
enthusiasm, but very much encouraged.

1. News:
*** IDC has started its life as an internet creature. The web site provides information and links about draped clothes. It also helps members link with each other. We are now looking at the creation of non-profit organisations in each country.
*** If you know or participate in an event, web site, etc. connected with draping, please let us know. This "news" feature is yours!

3. Draping goes to "Burning Man":
Randal Smith intends to promote IDC at the upcoming art festival,
Burning Man.
The festival takes place in the Black Rock Desert of northern
Nevada. The environment is a dry lake bed of alkali clay. Part
of the fun of the festival is wearing costumes. Some people dress
in harmony with the arid environment by wearing traditional desert
clothing, and some choose to mock the harsh environment and apply
a touch of irony by wearing tropical sarongs. Still others make
a vote for hedonism by wearing togas. Though what you see most,
is body paint and clay. In any case, draping is popular, yet people
have no reference to teach them the traditional methods. He hopes
to take on some of this responsibility.
4. Active members urgently needed!
Now is time to give legal structures to IDC! Being on the Internet
has a lot of advantages (like being worldwide and easily accessible),
but a HUGE drawback: we cannot accept membership fees or donations.
Unfortunately, we cannot have a worldwide incorporated non-profit
structure. IDC needs to be set up independently in each country
interested. In Great Britain, that is being taken care of.
We need active members ready take
on the organisation of IDC-USA or other national IDCs. If you
feel you have time, enthusiasm and commitment to create your local
branch of IDC, please send an Email to: <IDC@devi.net>.
You will be put in touch with other active members in your country
to coordinate your efforts. You will also receive the Email of
the members who have offered to contribute in your country. I
will do what I can to assist you in creating your local branch
of IDC.
5. Membership: visit our new and improved
site!
We are now accepting basic, active and research memberships (on
an Internet basis). If you wish to be a sponsor member, please
let us know. As soon as IDC is registered in your country we will
get in touch with you.
Please check our membership web page.
6. Logo: please send your ideas!
We need a logo... If you want to design it, please send your logo
as a JPEG or GIF file to <IDC@devi.net>.
All the logos will be posted on a web page and members will choose
which one they prefer.
7. Writers wanted:
We need writers for writing releases to send out to newspapers,
magazines, museums, universities, etc... Some are already available
on our web site. If you wish to contribute, please contact us
at:
<IDC@devi.net>....
thank you!
8. A personal note from Chantal:
Thank you for your support. As you can imagine, I get lots of
Emails and I may take more time than usual to answer. August was
a hard month because a lot of people I wanted to contact were
on vacation, and I was very busy looking for a new place to live
in London. I will have more time in September and hopefully our
Newsletter 2 will carry some important news.
I am always very happy to have any question, suggestion, criticism.
If you have some links to suggest, please let me know!
If you wish to write something for the newsletter, please do so
and Email it to me.
Thank you and best wishes!
